It was only a month ago that the live-action Lilo & Stitch hit theaters, now it has been revealed there is going to be a Lilo & Stitch 2. Disney announced the news on social media on June 26, a reference to Stitch’s government name Experiment 626.
Other than the confirmation of the sequel there is not a lot of information out. Deadline said that “the project is in development (and there is) no word on whether cast members Chris Sanders aka Stitch, Maia Kealoha aka Lilo or director Dean Fleischer Camp are returning.”
Variety explained that Lilo & Stitch was originally planned to go directly to streaming. Since it premiered in theaters it has grossed around $923 million globally.
The movie emphasized found family and the love between Lilo and Stitch. It is hard to say all the chaos Stitch will get into in the sequel but if it is anything like the first, it will be quite a bit.
You can check out Stitch driving a pink convertible on Disney’s Instagram with many references to “2” including a well suited license plate that reads 2 FAST, in the announcement of Lilo & Stitch 2.
As development furthers there will be more details revealed about the movie.
