Indiewire reports on a short film titled Life Is But a Dream which was shot entirely on an iPhone 13. The film comes from director Park Chan-wook, who is directing the upcoming film Decision to Leave. His next project involves the HBO series The Sympathizer, which will feature Robert Downey Jr.
Life Is But a Dream is a comedy about an undertaker, played by Yoo Hae-jin, who accidentally summons a ghost, played by Park Jung-min while trying to steal a coffin. Park remarked on how he enjoyed making the short film because of the amount of creative freedom the medium offered as opposed to a big-budget film that follows deeper restrictions.
The film being shot on an iPhone shows a trend in filmmaking where filmmakers shoot films with an iPhone camera. This will have an effect on the film industry because a surplus of amateur filmmakers will have access to the resources to make a film. When making a film, especially a short film, getting hold of equipment can pose a massive challenge to those who are working on a tight budget. With a high-quality camera becoming more accessible, the entire art form of filmmaking will follow suit.
