With journalism being the hot topic for recent films given this year’s new releases like Truth and Spotlight, Liam Neeson (Taken 3) has been cast as the Watergate-informer Deep Throat, or FBI Agent Mark W. Felt, in the upcoming film Felt.
The biopic follows Felt, a secret informant to Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein who unraveled the Watergate scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.
The film was written and will be directed by Peter Landesman (Concussion) with Ridley Scott and Tom Hanks producing the project. Landesman and Scott also collaborated together for the NFL-exposé film Concussion. Landesman previously wrote and directed Parkland which followed the events at Parkland Hospital immediately following the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
The role marks a turn to serious prestige projects for Neeson who has recently starred in a number of action flicks following the success of the Taken franchise. He’s also starring in the upcoming Martin Scorsese drama Silence as well as the Korean war drama Operation Chromite.
Felt is set to start principal photography in March. No release date has been announced at this time.
