According to Indie Wire, Debra Granik’s newest film Leave No Trace has released its first trailer and we can already feel the emotional roller coaster that she is about to be take us on.
The trailer begins with beautiful shots of massive sums of greenery and woods. The soft humming accompanying these shots brings us to a place of solitude and, potentially, concern. Whose voices are we hearing? Why are they so far out in the woods, seemingly alone? This is when we first meet Will, played by Ben Foster, and Tom, played by Thomasin McKenzie, who are family. When Will is caught by the police and taken into custody, we must start questioning why they are where they are.
Soon, we learn of Will’s troubling past and of his PTSD due to it. Now, Will and Tom are placed apart due to social services and must “adapt” to the world that they are expected to be a part of. They move out of their secluded home in the woods and back into society. What comes after that is where the real, heart-wrenching and connective story begins.
Leave No Trace has been making its way through the film festival circuit. The movie is set for release at some point in the summer. Until then, you can check out the trailer below.
