The latest trailer for the newest addition to the Mad Max franchise, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has been released, showing Anya Taylor-Joy up against Chris Hemsworth. The film is set to hit theaters on May 24th of this year and will be the fifth film to enter the action franchise, placing itself as a prequel to the 2015 Oscar-winning installment of the series starring Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa.
The latest film focuses on Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa preparing to find her way back to the Green Place of Many Mothers after having been abducted as a youth by Hemsworth’s Warlord Dementus.
The franchise originated in 1979, with the original Mad Max starring Mel Gibson. Director George Miller has continued the popular franchise, directing Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga based on a script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. Miller will serve as a producer on the film along with Doug Mitchell. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga would not be possible without the franchise’s revitalization back in 2015 with the aforementioned Mad Max: Fury Road, which starred Theron along with an ensemble cast including the likes of Nicholas Hoult, Riley Keough, Zoë Kravitz, and Tom Hardy. The film was a box office success, racking in more than $375 million globally and went on to win six Oscars.
