Olivia Munn (Mortdecai, HBO’s The Newsroom) has been announced as the latest cast member to join X-Men: Apocalypse. Bringing to light a new member of the ‘X-Men’ world, Munn will be playing Psylocke, a mutant with telekinetic and telepathic powers. This little-known mutant has only had one other appearance in the series, as one of Magneto’s followers in X-Men: The Last Stand. The question now becomes, whose side will she be on in the upcoming film?
Munn’s previous credits include Magic Mike, Mordecai, Deliver Us from Evil, and Date Night. Psylocke will be a big change from Munn’s past work as she takes the plunge into the world of spandex and superheroes.
Munn’s Psylocke is not the first lesser-known character to be join the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse. In addition to the slew of new actors playing the younger versions of well-known characters – such as Storm played by Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton), and Cyclops played by Tye Sheridan (Mud) – the mutants Angel and Jubilee will also be returning. Angel will be played by Ben Hardy (BBC’s EastEnders) and Jubilee will be played by Lana Condor. Psylocke, Angel, and Jubilee have had brief moments in X-Men films but perhaps X-Men Apocalypse is where their stories get told.
With a slew of new faces playing beloved and lesser-known mutants in the X-Men world, Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past) has his work cut out for him as the next installment comes to screen May 27, 2016.
