Nisha Ganatra makes the headlines again, as the filmmaker will be directing a film about an Indian boy band whose rights were recently auctioned off to Universal Studios according to Deadline. The film, which was loosely inspired by the adolescent period of Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Savan Kotecha, will be handled under the Marc Platt Productions banner.
Kotecha will have a role in the film’s production by overseeing its soundtrack and is expected to collaborate with Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, Usher, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Sam Smith, One Direction, and Britney Spears. Sanjay Shah will scribing the film’s screenplay while Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will be responsible for producing the film alongside Kotecha. Ryan Christians will also supervise the project in some capacity. Jacob Epstein, Aleen Keshishian, and Zack Morgenroth of Lighthouse Management + Media will serve as executive producers alongside Sonny Takhar.
Ganatra previously masterminded the recent Sundance smash hit Late Night, starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson. The director also inked a two-year deal with ABC Studios to direct, write, and adapt a multitude of projects through her banner Ladies’ Car Productions. Her latest endeavor Covers, starring Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson, is set for release next year.
