‘Last Holiday’ Bollywood Actor Ranjit Chowdhry Passes Away At Age 64

Another tragedy has rattled the film industry as renowned Bollywood actor Ranjit Chowdhry, who experienced a crossover to mainstream film in the western world, sadly passed away this Wednesday at a Mumbai hospital according to Deadline.

Chowdhry, who was 64 years old at the time of his passing, experienced a ruptured ulcer that needed emergency surgery, according to medical reports. Chowdhry made a return to his native India for dental work, but was forced to remain in the country due to travel shutdowns over the ongoing pandemic.

Chowdhry saw his acting career take off when he received starring roles in a plethora of Indian comedies during the late 1970s and early 1980s. He later made his transition to the U.S., where Chowdhry’s big break came in two appearances on NBC’s American adaptation of The Office, in which he played a telemarketer named Vikram. Vikram’s story for The Office saw him being recruited by Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and the Dunder-Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Aside from The Office, Chowdhry saw roles on shows like Girls, Prison Break, and Law & Order: SVU. His film credits include the Queen Latifah vehicle Last Holiday and the oft-forgotten Lonely In America, which was released in 1990.
