If you try to tell us that you didn’t feel goosebumps through the entirety of the debut trailer for Bradley Cooper‘s A Star Is Born, we most definitely wouldn’t believe you.
Cooper and pop superstar Lady Gaga shine through each scene they appear in. Cooper, who plays Jackson Maine, a seasoned country singer, nearly immediately breaks our hearts in the opening scene of the trailer through a soulful and sad guitar melody accompanied by the lyrics, “Maybe it’s time to let the old ways die.”
We see him struggle with himself and cope through drinking and through women. That’s when he meets Ally (Gaga). Ally’s a struggling, young artist who Jackson falls in love with. Their relationship spawns both happiness and Ally’s music career, but will the fact that they’re “far from the shallow now” cause their newfound love and everything else to fall apart?
A Star is Born is Cooper’s directorial debut. He is a four-time Oscar-nominated actor (Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper).
Gaga, who already scored an Oscar for her gut-wrenching song “Til it Happens to You” for The Hunting Ground, helped write the songs for the upcoming film alongside Cooper and other well-known musicians including Mark Ronson, Lukas Nelson, and Jason Isbell.
Other cast members include Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle, and Sam Elliott.
The film is set to release on October 5, 2018.
