The American Film Institute announced that both La La Land and Jackie will be shown at the upcoming AFI Fest. Both films premiered at Venice Film Festival in September, and will screen at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood as a Centerpiece Gala during AFI Fest, with Jackie screening on Monday November 14, and La La Land on Tuesday, November 15.
The two very different films have proved to be two of the most acclaimed during this season of film festivals, and will no doubt be contenders for the upcoming awards season. Other high profile films confirmed for AFI include 20th Century Women starring Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply, which serves as the Opening Night Gala.
La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, has already won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at Venice and went on to win the People’s Choice Award at TIFF. Jackie, starring Natalie Portman, won the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay at Venice, and won the Platform Prize for director Pablo Larrain at TIFF.
Jackie will have its US release on December 2nd, with La La Land set to release on December 9th.
