One of the best super hero films released this year has to be Deadpool (20th Century Fox). The Merc with a Mouth and team took advantage of the $58 million dollar lemons they were dealt and made a $782.6 million dollar lemonade empire – a sequel wasn’t too far behind after those numbers.
Deadpool felt pretty confident about a sequel since the character (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds) took it upon himself in the post-credit sequence to tell the world that Cable would be in the next installment. At the time, Fox hadn’t announced any plans for a Deadpool 2 production, but that didn’t stop Deadpool from naming some candidates for the roll:
While it would be awesome to see Dolph Lundgren as Cable, Fox is thinking differently. Rumor has it that for Deadpool 2, Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) is up for consideration to play Cable, and Mackenzie Davis (The Martian) is to play X-Force member Domino. Chandler has a good demeanor for playing the time-traveling mutant, however he’d have to put on some weight to fully capture Cable. It seems that the studio is looking for a more physically believable actress for Domino as opposed to the comics; it’d make sense for someone like Davis to be considered for the mercenary’s role. There’s nothing official here but these two casting tips came out courtesy of Jeff Sneider on Friday’s Meet the Movie Press installment. Sneider said:
People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There’s been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn’t changed, don’t know if it’s changed. Didn’t make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler.
The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis.
Production for Deadpool 2 is to start in 2017.
