Throughout the past few years, actor Kurt Russell has been playing roles in plenty of action-oriented and suspenseful films such as Furious 7; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; and The Hateful Eight. Now it looks like his career is going to take a new turn, as it has been reported that Russell is signing onto a Santa Claus-themed film where he will be playing the iconic North Pole resident. Unfortunately for him, it looks like it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Housed at Netflix, the movie joins several recently-conceived holiday films with fun new twists on Christmas fare, such as Anna Kendrick’s currently untitled project where her character, Santa’s daughter, will potentially assume his job, as well as Michael Shannon’s newly-released Pottersville which features a town completely overrun by Bigfoot fever, despite the fact that his character was the one mistaken as a sasquatch. As for Russell’s movie, he will be playing Santa in the midst of a sleigh crash. The plot then follows his journey to return to the skies and deliver everyone’s presents.
Darby Camp (Big Little Lies) and Judah Lewis (Demolition) will work alongside Russell to bring the Clay Kaytis-directed story to life. 1492 Pictures (founded by Chris Columbus) will produce the film as well. As of now, plans are to bring the movie to Netflix during winter of 2018.
