Kung Fu Panda 4 breaks new ground earning about $318.5 million worldwide, boosting its total box office gross to nearly $503.5 million. With this success, the Dragon Warrior and friends have helped this feature become one of the highest-grossing animated films worldwide.
Its nearly $500 million success propelled it to becoming the fourth-highest-grossing animated film, almost beating Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s $691 million earnings. In addition to joining films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.4B) and Minions: Rise of Gru ($943M) as the highest grosses, Kung Fu Panda 4 is now the highest-grossing film in its franchise in 37 markets. With this, the famous Dreamworks franchise topped at about $2 billion in the global market, becoming the seventh most successful animated franchise worldwide. Additionally, this adds to Dreamworks Animation Studios’ roster of franchises reaching this milestone, including Shrek ($3.972B) and Madagascar ($2.257B).
Kung Fu Panda 4 received lukewarm reactions from critics, with the final consensus on Rotten Tomatoes stating, “Kung Fu Panda 4 offers enough eye-catching entertainment to sustain the franchise’s young fans, although it’s starting to feel like this series is running out of steam.” However, there is a high chance that the franchise will continue to go strong and make milestones in the box office alongside movies like Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
