During a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kristen Stewart revealed she would be open to directing a remake of the massively successful franchise that launched her into global superstardom, Twilight. The Academy Award-nominated actress was attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Creative Impact Awards after being named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch. When asked which film she would most like to revisit as a director, Stewart chose Twilight, mentioning directors Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz.
I love what Catherine did, I love what Chris did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies. They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.
She jokingly added, “I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it. I’m committed.”
Stewart’s directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, has already earned critical acclaim. Described as an unflinching portrait of womanhood, survival, and artistic self-discovery, the film is adapted from the memoir of the same name and stars Imogen Poots.
The film currently holds a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and is slated for wide release on January 9.
