Kristen Stewart Takes on Bisexual Film, ‘The Chronology of Water,’ in her Feature Directorial Debut

After premiering her first short, Come Swim, at the Sundace Film Festival, Kristen Stewart is ready to take on her first attempt at a full length film. Stewart told the Cannes Festival she plans on directing and writing a feature film based on the adaptation of  Lidia Yuknavich’s 2011 memoir, The Chronology of Water.

The memoir follows the effect of grief on a young woman’s developing sexuality as she realizes her attraction to both men and women. Furthermore, the book counters upon Yuknavich’s tale of addiction, self destruction, and ultimate survival in the eyes of love and motherhood.

Stewart says she plans on beginning production of Water this summer, though it is unclear whether or not she plans to star in the picture herself, the ultimate triple threat.

In addition to talking about her upcoming film project, Stewart also told the Cannes Film Festival about the idea of being free to play an androgynous character in last year’s Oliver Assayas drama Personal Shopper. She admits a connection with the movie as it deals with the loss of her twin brother. She further told Cannes that she is all on board for playing a male character, quoting, “Gender is just a myth.”

Her short film, Come Swim, can be seen below, and the award winners for the Cannes Competition is scheduled to be announce this Saturday, May 17.
