It has been reported that KJ Apa and Isabel May have officially been cast as the two leads for DC’s live-action comedy The Wonder Twins for HBO Max. Adam Sztykiel, co-writer for DC’s upcoming film Black Adam and New Line Cinema’s Rampage (both starring Dwayne Johnson), will make his directorial debut for the film from a script he wrote.
The Wonder Twins are legacy comic characters Zan (Apa) and Jayna (May) with alien origins and shapeshifting abilities. The twins have appeared in many comics in addition to guest roles in other DC series and properties like Smallville, Teen Titans, Go!, and The Flash. While any plot details are still unknown, it is possible that some of their comic origins will play into the film. In the comics, the twins were from the planet Exxor, but they were orphaned from their home planet and adopted by the Exorian people. From here, they traveled to Earth and worked with the Justice League, even warning them of the imminent threat of the villain Grax, bent on destroying Earth.
Apa is most known for playing Archie in The CW’s Riverdale, which has just been renewed for a seventh season. He has also appeared in several features, including The Hate U Give, A Dog’s Purpose, Songbird, and Netflix’s The Last Summer. May stars in Paramount+’s Yellowstone prequel series 1883 and has also appeared in Alexa & Katie and Young Sheldon.
Production is set to go into production later this summer in Atlanta.
