‘Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Takes The Gold At Weekend Box Office With $52-56 Million Domestically

Apes together are strong this weekend. Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes opens in theaters, with apes taking over the box office this weekend.

The newest installment in the longstanding franchise, Kingdom follows Noa, a young ape coming into his own, when the treacherous Proximus Caesar takes his village. On his travels to reclaim his friends and family, he meets a young girl, who may hold the key to completely changing the balance of power in their world.

These apes didn’t come to monkey around, however. The weekend gross is looking to hold out around $52 to $56 million for Kingdom, very similar to past entries Rise and War. Hollywood Reporter points out that with international totals, on top of domestic, Kingdom is looking at about $80 million.

With Kingdom taking the gold this weekend, The Fall Guy falls to second place. After an already less-than-stellar debut weekend, the Ryan Gosling-led action flick is taking home only $14.4 million this weekend.

Third place goes to Challengers, still holding onto the top three in its third weekend. By Sunday’s close, it’ll take in roughly $5 million to add to its total gross.

The top five for the weekend is completed with Tarot in fourth place, making $3.2 million, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire claiming $2.6 million in its seventh weekend.
