‘Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes’ Projects A Multi-Million Dollar Opening Weekend

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes aims to be the next box office hit of this summer with a suspected $130 million to $140 million total revenue at the global box office by the weekend of its release on May 8. This film will add human-like animals to the mix of recent film hits such as Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and David Leitch’s The Fall Guy.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth film in the rebooted franchise and will see a high income as the previous films in the franchise have seen similar opening numbers. In 2017, War for the Planet of the Apes obtained $56.2 million, Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened in 2011 and saw $54.8 million, while in 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes saw the most with $72 million, all according to Variety

Letterboxd summarizes the film by explaining, “As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has shown audiences unusual promotion strategies in the past months. In California, groups of individuals dressed as apes, and quite accurately, were seen riding horseback around San Francisco and Los Angeles. These sights shocked, yet amazed, individuals as they could a close-up look at the creatures in the film.

This film will star Owen Teague as Noa, Freya Allen as Nova/ Mae, Kevin Durand as Proximus Caesar, William H. Macy as Trevathan, and many more. The crew includes Gyula Pados as cinematographer, Josh Friedman as a writer, and Joe Hartwick Jr. and Rick Jaffa as producers.
