Oscar winning actress Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) has signed for a role in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter in the Fifty Shades saga based on E.L. James’ bestselling book series. Fifty Shades of Grey, the first installment in the series, opened in theaters nearly one year ago an set the box office afire, minting over $500 million worldwide.
Dakota Johnson (Black Mass) and Jamie Dornan (The Fall) will reprise their roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively. James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross) will take over directing duties from original helmer Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy). Basinger’s casting comes in the nick of time ahead the spring start date on the sequel; both Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, the third installment, will be shot back-to-back. Basinger will play the pivotal role Elena Lincoln, business partner and former love of Christian.
Basinger will next be seen on screens in Shane Black’s upcoming thriller The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe (Les Misérables), Ryan Gosling (The Big Short) and Matt Bomer (Magic Mike XXL) due in theaters on May 20, 2016.
Fifty Shades Darker will theaters on February 10, 2017 and Fifty Shades Freed will follow one year later on February 9, 2018.
