In 2003, the decision was made to split Kill Bill into Volumes 1 and 2 as the original 4-hour cut was considered too lengthy for a singular release. Quentin Tarantino’s highly touted saga in its entirety, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, has nearly sold out across the country, with Collider reporting intense anticipation for the release with screenings set for 35 mm and 70 mm in select locations. Lionsgate is distributing the film for its first nationwide run, already seeing $2 million plus in ticket sales.
Due to the intense hype of experiencing Tarantino’s story in all its bloody glory, Lionsgate is already pursuing avenues to get the film’s release window expanded. The 281-minute run time is also more than just volumes 1 and 2 stitched together. The picture will include never-before-seen footage and editing that will naturally blend the volumes to satisfy Tarantino’s vision for the story of Uma Thurman’s The Bride. This new release also gave Tarantino the unique opportunity to partner with Fortnite to finally bring an element of the story off the page and into reality. The Fortnite event was titled The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge, and even though the event already occurred in-game, audiences will finally get to witness the entirety of Tarantino’s full story with the event included in the saga this weekend.
The original volumes combined the story of The Bride as she seeks revenge for her ex-lover Bill’s destruction at her wedding 4 years prior, murdering everyone in sight besides her. Formerly working under him as a member of the Deadly Vipers Assassination Squad, she awakes from a coma with the sole intent of bringing an end to the lives of all the Vipers she holds responsible, before taking out Bill for good. Her journey to exact revenge brings Uma Thurman face to face with the likes of Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, and Daryl Hannah, but by the end of Volume 1, Bill (David Carradine) has a surprise for her that rocks her world.
President of worldwide distribution at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Kevin Grayson, exhibited immense joy about not just the excitement of audiences, but also working with Tarantino to achieve his original goal for the Kill Bill story. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’s release is upon us with screenings already coming and going, so be sure to grab tickets while you can to experience the saga that is being shown in upwards of 1,200 locations.
