Kevin Feige’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie Officially Abandoned

Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios and the producer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, was set to produce a new Star Wars movie. In 2021, news broke that Feige had brought on Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki, to write the script. This was around the time The Mandalorian was released on Disney+, and the announcement of another movie surrounding Daisy Ridley’s Skywalker was circulating Hollywood.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige stated, “I love that world, and I love the notion of exploring new people and new places in that universe.”

There had been no update on the slated Star Wars movie since 2021 until recently when Entertainment Tonight interviewed Kevin Feige on the red carpet premiere of The Marvels. When asked about the latest news on the Star Wars movie and whether it was happening, Feige shook his head and replied, “No.” With that one-word response, any hopes of Feige’s addition to the Star Wars franchise were dashed.

This is not the first projected Star Wars film to be scrapped. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss were set to write a new trilogy for the franchise, and Patty Jenkins, known for Wonder Woman (2017) and Monster (2003), was set to direct Rogue Squadron, but the films have since been abandoned.

However, although Fiege’s film will not be joining the franchise, Lucasfilms still has many projects in the works, including Rise of Skywalker, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, as well as films by the creators of Mandalorian, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni.
