Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is still riding strong on streaming months after release, Screen Rant reports.

The first of a four-part series, the Western epic follows multiple characters throughout the American West before, during, and after the Civil War and their connections to a legendary settlement called Horizon.

Released on June 28, 2024, the film received mixed reviews from critics, with a 51% Critical Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a box office bomb, grossing $38.7 million on a $50 million budget, resulting in Chapter 2 being postponed.

When Chapter 1 was added to Netflix at the beginning of the year, however, it quickly became the number-one movie on streaming for the week of December 30 through January 5, reaching 753 million viewed minutes on Netflix and Max combined, according to Nielsen.

This is not the first time the film has topped the charts either as it debuted at number one on the VOD platforms iTunes and Fandango at Home the week of July 15.

It’s currently unknown when or if Chapter 2 will have a theatrical release date, but along with its continued success at home, there is potential promise for the series in some form as, per The Hollywood Reporter, the second installment will have its U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Fest on February 7, followed by a screening of a behind the scenes documentary, Beyond the Horizon, on February 13 (having premiered internationally at the Venice Film Festival last year).
