It looks like Kevin Costner is in the middle of a big screen renaissance. We recently reported that he just began filming his new movie Black and White in New Orleans this week, he was last seen playing Jonathan Kent in the much-talked-about Man of Steel, he’s set to play opposite Chris Pine in Jack Ryan, and he just finished up with the action/thriller Three Days to Kill. Now, he’s in negotiations to star in Universal Studios’ Midnight Delivery, co-written and produced by Pacific Rim’s Guillermo Del Toro, who also seems to be working on everything under the sun lately. Neil Cross, who worked with Del Toro on the script for Mama (not to mention lent hand in the recently released sci-fi flick Pacific Rim) and is the creator of the BBC series Luther, also wrote for this film. Their collaboration on script based on an original idea by del Toro for Universal was announced in 2010, and now it appears they’re ready to get the ball rolling on the cast.
No director is attached yet, but there were rumors back in 2011 that Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk might pick up the project. At the moment, however, nothing has been confirmed and the plotdetails are being kept under wraps, but the story centers on a father who sets out to save his daughter’s life from a Colombian gang by trafficking cocaine to London on a midnight flight. If the deal goes through, Costner will be taking the role of the father adding on to his already busy film schedule.
