Kelly Oxford to Direct ‘Son of A Bitch’ Comedy for HBO Max

Following her debut film Pink Skies AheadKelly Oxford has been set to direct Son of A Bitch, a new comedy for HBO Max. Oxford is a two time New York Times bestselling author who gained fame from her essays and books on her own life and her struggle with mental illness. In addition to her books, Oxford regularly published humorous essays, which helped her gain a following.

Oxford originally wrote the script for Son of A Bitch in 2012 and sold it to Warner Bros. Son of A Bitch is an absurd comedy following the life of a stoner who gets pregnant accidentally. She tries to maintain her party girl image and keep her popularity during her pregnancy.

Oxford’s debut film Pink Skies was supposed to premiere at SXSW before all festivals were canceled due to Covid-19. The film starred Jessica Barden (The End of The Fucking World) and chronicled Oxford’s struggle with anxiety.

Son of A Bitch has been in the works for a long time, as it was Oxford’s first script, and is only now entering development.

After the news broke, Oxford shared a photo to social media with the caption “Let’s ✅ get ✅ more ✅ pie ✅.” As of now, casting and production timelines are unknown.
