Keira Knightley, the actress behind Pirates of the Caribbean staple character Elizabeth Swann and for her role in The Imitation Game, has officially joined Berlin, I Love You, the third film of the Cities of Love anthology series. Helen Mirren (Monsters University, The Queen) and Jim Sturgess (21, Across the Universe) have also recently joined the cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Berlin, I Love You, like the previous two films, will focus on several short stories of love in a large city, with this specific iteration focusing on the beautiful German city. Some of the other confirmed co-stars include Diego Luna (Rogue One, Flatliners), Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For), Renée Zellweger (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Chicago), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Enchanted), and Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings).
There is a slew of directors who have been chosen to helm various stories including Fernando Eimbcke, Dennis Gansel, Massy Tadjedin, Peter Chelsom, Til Schweiger, Dani Levy, Justin Franklin, Ai Weiwei, and Dianna Agron. Production looks to begin on the film sometime at the end of September.
The first of the City of Love films, titled Paris, je t’aime, released in 2006, with the second film, New York, I Love You, releasing in 2008. We are interested to see how each director will put their auteurism to work in their specific sequences, and we hope that it will create a fun and unique narrative.
