Keanu Reeves Joins ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’ Cast As Shadow The Hedgehog

The Sonic The Hedgehog film universe continues to expand, as new characters and their voice actors have been confirmed for the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the latest actors to join this universe is Keanu Reeves, who will voice Shadow the Hedgehog.

Shadow the Hedgehog first joined the Sonic series in the 2001 game Sonic Adventure 2 and started as an antagonist to Sonic.

During Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation, a first look at Sonic 3 showed Dr. Robotnik, played again by Jim Carrey, depressed about what happened at the end of Sonic 2. However, all that changes when he creates Shadow, who is very similar to Sonic regarding looks and power.

With Reeves now joining the franchise and having to put focus on a dark and edgy character, something we have seen in his John Wick franchise, it’s exciting to imagine what his interactions will be with the other voice actors and characters.

Voice actors that will be returning are Ben Schwartz (Renfield and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Danny Phantom and Sonic game franchise) as Tails, and Idris Elba (Beast and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty) as Knuckles.

Also returning to the film is James Marsden as Sonic’s human friend and guardian Tom Wachowski (Westworld and X-Men) and Tika Sumpter (The Haves and the Have Nots and Ride Along films) as Maddie Wachowski, Tom’s wife.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 releases in theaters December 20.
