Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Praise ‘The Matrix 4’ Script

It has been almost two decades since the last Matrix story in 2003 with The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. It’s thrilling to hear that the famous sci-fi franchise is being rebooted again after all these years. In The Matrix 4, the original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are returning to the cyberpunk universe.

This is a surprise to even the original actors, who never expected to come back to the fourth Matrix movie. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Moss admits that she “never thought that it would happen. It was never on my radar at all.”

It’s not only Moss and Reeves who are coming back. Co-star Jada Pinkett Smith is returning to the franchise as well as the franchise’s original co-creator Lana Wachowski, who will be directing and co-writing the script alongside Aleksandar Hemon, and Cloud Atlas novelist David Mitchell. Apparently, the screenplay is enticing enough to bring back the original stars to the front of the camera.

The exact story plot of The Matrix 4 has not been revealed yet, although there have been rumors swirling that time travel and a younger version of the Morpheus character are involved.

Moss praises the The Matrix 4 script in an interview with Empire, stating that “When it was brought to me in the way that it was brought to me, with incredible depth and all of the integrity and artistry that you could imagine, I was like, ‘This is a gift.’ It was just very exciting.”

Reeves added on to the anticipation of the supposedly beautiful screenplay: “Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it. To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”

There will be a mix of old and new faces in the upcoming sequel as well. Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, and Jessica Henwick, among others, are joining the trippy cinematic universe of The Matrix.

Warner Bros. is scheduled to release The Matrix 4 in theaters nationwide May 21, 2021.
