The wait is finally over, dudes! On Tuesday, Orion Pictures released the first official trailer of Bill & Ted Face The Music, which is the third film in the comedy sci-fi series of Bill & Ted.
This sequel hails the return of the classic time-traveling duo, portrayed by Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. The Bill & Ted franchise started in 1989 with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and was followed up by Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, becoming cult classics and grossing around $80M combined. The third installment comes 29 years after the second, so it’s safe to say this has long been anticipated by fans.
In the new trailer, our heroes Theodore “Ted” Logan and William “Bill” S. Preston, Esq. are middle-aged, but still best friends. They are tasked with writing a song that will unite the world when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save all of humanity. The pair must travel to the future via their iconic phone booth to retrieve the already-written song from themselves. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, new historical figures and various music legends.
Dean Parisot from Galaxy Quest is the director of the third installment, with original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon writing the script. A third Bill & Ted film had been in the works since 2010 and was officially greenlit in 2018.
The film also plans to keep its August 21 theater release date, despite the fact that movie theaters have been closed nationwide since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the trailer was dropped a day after California’s announcement that movie theaters could reopen as early as June 12 as long as health restrictions were implemented.
