Katie Wech Spec Script Acquired by New Line, Apparently A Mix Between ‘Sausage Party’ and ‘Toy Story’

Deadline has reported that New Line Cinema has recently acquired the rights to comedy spec script by screenwriter Katie Wech. The script will be R-rated and was described as “Sausage Party meets Toy Story, done in a CGI and animation hybrid with some live action thrown in” which, to simplify, sounds like Sausage Party.

Katie Wech has been quite the prolific writer the last decade, if not known to the public, it can be assumed she is very well known in the industry. She has written for over ten shows and wrote 2011’s Prom. In addition she has also executive produced for shows like Jane the Virgin and Rizzoli & Isles

New Line Cinema has lined up Alexa Faigen to produce the film. She has previously been an executive producer on Safe House and Bird Box, a Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds action film and a Sandra Bullock led horror film. Big names could be surely attached to this one day.

While the description is brief, the film does sound intriguing. Sausage Party had its own controversies, but the concept of a hard R-rated CGI film a la Pixar family friendly films is well ripe for picking. Only time will tell if this project perfects the concept.

No production date is yet scheduled.
