Kathryn Hahn lives up to her Instagram username as the actress has officially confirmed that she will play Mother Gothel in Disney’s much-anticipated live-action Tangled. Mother Gothel is the film’s main antagonist, stealing Rapunzel, played by Teagan Croft, away when she is just a baby for the princess’s hair, which has magical healing powers.
Hahn announced the confirmation on her Instagram, @motherhahn, in an Outfit of the Day video, in which the Glass Onion actress wears T-shirt featuring the animated Mother Gothel, voiced by Donna Murphy. It was first reported in January that Hahn was in talks for the iconic villain role. There were rumors that Scarlett Johansson was being considered for the role but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.
Milo Manheim is also set to star in the adaptation, playing aloof thief Flynn Rider, who joins Rapunzel on her adventure. Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, is set to direct a script penned by Do Revenge’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Kristin Burr will produce under the banner of Burr! Productions, while Lucy Kitada will executive produce.
Disney’s live action Tangled does not have a set release date, but production is set to begin this June in Spain and the United Kingdom.
