Five-time Oscar nominee and Academy Award winner Kate Winslet (Best Actress in 2009 for The Reader) is set to star in biopic of Lee Miller, according to Deadline.
The Lives of Lee Miller is a biography written by Antony Penrose (Miller’s son), and centers on the various turns in Miller’s life from fashion model to Picasso’s muse to fine art photographer to acclaimed WWII war correspondent. Troy Lum and Andrew Mason of Hopscotch Features have optioned the rights to Penrose’s book and will produce the indie drama. Penrose is giving the project exclusive access to his mother’s archives for the film. No writer or director is yet on board.
Hopscotch was launched by Lum, Mason and Master And Commander co-screenwriter John Collee, and its recent films include John Lee Hancock’s Saving Mr. Banks and the Russell Crowe-helmed The Water Diviner.
The in-demand Winslet is fresh off a highly regarded supporting performance alongside Michael Fassbender in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, and has had recent turns playing the main antagonist in the dystopian/sci-fi YA Divergent/Insurgent series. She will be seen next as the star of The Dressmaker, about glamorous woman who brings haute couture to her small hometown in Australia. The film premiered earlier this year at TIFF. The versatile British actress will play a vicious criminal in John Hilcoat’s heist thriller Triple 9, which will bow on February 19. She is also set to play Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough in Yorgos Lanthimos’s period drama The Favourite, set for release sometime in 2017.
