Kat Graham will no longer portray Diana Ross in the highly anticipated biopic Michael. The biopic is set to release this Friday, directed by Lionsgate’s Antoine Fuqua. Michael will be led by Jafaar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, who will portray Michael in the film. Coleman Domingo is set to play the superstar’s father, alongside Nia Long as his mother.
Kat Graham was set to play Ross in the biopic, as Ross maintained a close relationship with Michael Jackson throughout his career. They met when Michael was still a part of the Jackson 5. Per his brother Jermaine Jackson, he was said to have written the song Remember The Time about Ross. Graham posted this Thursday on her socials that, due to certain legalities, her scenes as Ross were scrapped from the final cut. She stated,
Unfortunately, these moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible.
Graham’s scenes are not the only to be cut from the film. The biopic was set to be a bit longer, depicting the time when Jackson was dealing with child sex abuse allegations. Lionsgate made the call to also withhold them, and revisit that era of Jackson in a second film that is already in development.
