Karl Glusman (Love) has joined the cast of writer-director Tom Ford’s second feature film Nocturnal Animals just in time for filming which started this week, according to Deadline. Fashion designer and former Gucci creative director Ford’s debut film in 2009- A Single Man– garnered Best Actor Oscar nomination for its star Colin Firth, who went on to win the Best Actor Oscar the following year for Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech.
The big-name cast for Nocturnal Animals already includes five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams (American Hustle), one-time Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain), Armie Hammer (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), Isla Fisher (Now You See Me), one-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Oscar winner Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), newcomer Ellie Bamber (The Falling), and Robert Aramayo (upcoming indie film The Tourist).
The drama-thriller is based on Austin Wright’s novel Tony and Susan, a “story inside a story.” Out of the blue, Susan’s (Adams) ex-husband Edward sends her his unpublished manuscript entitled Nocturnal Animals and asks her opinion of it. Susan had left Edward 20 years prior after being unfaithful to him. The manuscript follows the story of Tony (Gyllenhael), whose family vacation turns deadly when they encounter dangerous hoodlums who run them off a deserted highway. Tony’s wife and daughter are played by Fisher and Bamber, respectively. As Susan reads about the characters in the manuscript, she sees parallel truths in her own life, and suspense builds as Edward plans to visit Susan with possibly violent intentions. Producers are Ford, Diane L. Sabatini and Robert Salerno. The Focus Features film will bow sometime in 2016.
Glusman was featured in Roland Emmerich’s recently released historical drama Stonewall, which has, so far, performed poorly at the box office. He will be seen in Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon about beauty obsession, currently in post-production. He stars in Gaspar Noé’s sexually explicit romantic drama Love, which premiered at Cannes in May and will be released in theaters on October 30. The 3-D film generated quite a stir following its premiere, ensuring Glusman will get quite the exposure on screen. Check out the trailer for Love below.
