Kane Parsons Reportedly Returning To Direct ‘Backrooms’ Sequel

Chiwetel Ejiofor in Kane Parsons' 'Backrooms' (2026)

Kane Parsons is reportedly returning to direct sequel to A24’s Backrooms. According to a new report from Dread Central, Parsons has already signed with A24 to direct the sequel.

While A24 has yet to make an official announcement, the report says one is “imminent.” It also isn’t yet known whether any of the first movie’s cast, such as Renate Reinsve, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, or Lukita Maxwell, will return, or whether there is any other casting or plot information.

This report comes after the massive success of the first Backrooms movie. Over the past summer, the film made over $394 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. This worldwide gross made it A24’s highest-grossing film ever. The film was also a major critical success, with an 87% critics score and a 74% Popcornmeter score.

If these reports are true, it wouldn’t be a surprise, given Parsons’ long history with this world and franchise, having already directed the previous movie and the Backrooms web series, which began in 2022. And if the reports end up being true, the film won’t be the next directorial effort from Parsons, as the next is reportedly an unrelated horror film being produced by Parsons and Osgood Perkins, who also produced the first Backrooms movie.
