Jury Selection Begins For Alec Baldwin ‘Rust’ Manslaughter Trial

On July 9, jury selection started for Alec Baldwin’s Rust manslaughter trial. Seventy individuals were called to be considered jurors, most of whom were familiar with the incident that occurred in their hometown of Santa Fe. From there, attorneys selected twelve jurors and four alternates. Eleven are women, and five are men.

This trial has been a long time coming. Back in 2021, director Joel Souza was filming his American Western film, Rust, starring Patrick Scott McDermott, Travis Fimmel, John Hopkins, Frances Fisher, and Baldwin—who also produces and co-wrote the story with Souza. During production, Baldwin was supposed to use a gun during a scene. Unfortunately, he shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchens and harmed Souza with that same gun. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has already been found guilty and sentenced to eighteen months in prison. According to Variety, Baldwin was not aware that the gun was loaded when he pulled the trigger.

After the incident, production was placed on hold until 2023 and concluded in May. This is an ongoing story, so stay with us for more news about the Rust trial and other news related to movies, television, music, games, and many other topics in the entertainment industry.
