Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth took the top spot in a ranking by Fandango of moviegoers’ most-anticipated releases of summer 2025. The rest of the Top 10 films include The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Superman, Thunderbolts*, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, 28 Years Later, How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch and Freakier Friday.
The rankings are part of a broader report released on the eve of CinemaCon, the film industry’s annual trade show in Las Vegas. Along with measuring interest in summer films, Fandango, a division of NBCUniversal, will soon take part in a spinoff from Comcast of cable and digital assets, surveyed moviegoers about different habits and opinions. Over 5,000 people who bought at least one movie theater ticket since January 2024 took part in the study in December.
Approximately 80% of respondents were ages 18-54, with 51% identifying as male, 47% female and 2% non-binary. In total, 45% described themselves as Caucasian, 42% Latinx/Hispanic, 18% Black/African American, 5% Asian/Pacific Islander and 2% other. Some respondents identified with multiple ethnicities. Additional information on the Top 10 most-anticipated summer movies and summer sentiment was obtained through a supplemental survey with more than 3,000 moviegoers conducted in February.
While revenue and attendance numbers still don’t quite match numbers from the pre-COVID era, the Fandango report offers some hope. Attendance could see a rise as 88% of moviegoers expect to see more movies this year due to more releases in 2025 compared to 2024.
Premium large format screenings continue to be the spearhead, with 77% of survey respondents saying they attended at least one PLF showing this past year, up 6% from the prior year. Summer maintains its title as the most popular season to go to the movies, but Christmas Day is the top pick for 33% of moviegoers to head to the theater.
