As the cast and crew of Jurassic World: Dominion prepare to resume production of the third installment in the blockbuster series, director Colin Trevorrow is also setting his sights on new project with Universal: Atlantis. Deadline first reported the news.
Atlantis is a fantasy thriller based on the underwater mythical city but with some original adaptations. The story was conceived by Trevorrow and Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) and is set on a lost continent comprised of a multicultural and technologically advanced civilization in the Indian Ocean. Dante Harper (Alien: Covenant) is set to write the script.
According to Deadline, Trevorrow’s Metronome Film Co. will produce the film.
Ideas for Atlantis were initially formed in late 2018, but details were kept quiet to provide time for research and further development of the project by Trevorrow’s creative team, before creating a script. The team is led by production designer Kevin Jenkins (Jurassic World: Dominion).
On the side of Universal, Senior Vice President of Production Sara Scott is responsible for overseeing the project and Director of Development Jeff Gernert will oversee for Metronome. In addition, Annys Hamilton, Metronome Production Executive, will co-produce.
Atlantis will be Metronome’s second production at Universal, the first being Space Opera, a musical based on Catherynne Valente’s sci-fi book of the same name.
Upon resuming production, Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to release on June 11, 2021. Trevorrow will hopefully begin work on Atlantis soon after.
