Disney will take its viewers for another jungle cruise sooner than we thought. After reaching $100 million at the domestic box office this weekend, Disney is already looking forward to the production of the Jungle Cruise sequel. Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will be back for more crazy boat adventures in their roles as Franck Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton, respectively.
The energetic duo has a turned Jungle Cruise into a real summer blockbuster. According to Disney, the movie made $30 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office, plus another $30 million in Disney+ Premier Access. Even with the ongoing Covid-19 difficulties that movie theaters face, especially with new variants, the film has continued to sell extraordinarily well given the circumstances.
Jungle Cruise has remained at the top-selling positions of the box office for weeks now, generating $100.1 million domestically and over $187 million worldwide. Not bad at all for a film that is based on one of Disneyland’s first-ever attractions back in 1955.
It is no surprise given the success of the film that director Jaume Collet-Serra will continue in his role for the sequel. Script writer Michael Green has already written another script about adventures on a cruise ship, namely Death on the Nile, a cinematic adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel. The line of producers will most likely remain the same with John Davis, John Fox, Beau Flynn, Danny Garcia, and Hiram Garcia, and with Scott Sheldon as executive producer.
