In the COVID-19 era, Hollywood is still tinkering away with projects, and the big subject of news this week is that Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore and Stranger Things sensation Finn Wolfhard are signing on to star in the upcoming comedy-drama When You Finish Saving the World. The film will feature Jesse Eisenberg as the chief writer and director, as well as see Emma Stone in charge of production, according to Deadline.
Accompanying Stone with production on the mother-son tale will be SNL scribe Dave McCary, as well as Moore herself. The story was loosely inspired by Eisenberg’s pending eponymous Audible Original, which is expected to debut later this year. With most plot details currently privatized for the time being, it’s been reported that the film will venture a different path from its source material, namely that it will also star Eisenberg. Narratively spanning three decades, the six-part audiobook follows three members of a family -Nathan, Rachel, and Ziggy- in self-discovery efforts. Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) is currently in negotiations to become part of the cast.
Eisenberg’s most recent film appearance came from a role in the war biopic Resistance, which details the early career of French mime Marcel Marceau during his time the French Jewish resistance. When You Finish Saving the World will mark Eisneberg’s directorial debut.
