According to Variety, Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) may be circling the upcoming legal drama Train Man. The actress, last seen on screens in the English-remake of The Secret of Their Eyes alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Nicole Kidman (The Hours), would be playing a lawyer in the film if plans come into place.
Written by Simon Stephenson (Eleventh Hour), Train Man centers around the offbeat story of real-life New York media celebrity Darius McCollum. Starting as a teenger, McCollum (who was diagnosed with Asperger’s) would impersonate public transit works before driving away subway trains as well as Greyhound buses. The film, reportedly, utilizes flashbacks to flesh out McCollum’s story. The role Roberts would play is McCollum’s latest lawyer, which per Variety is apparently meaty.
Financing for the film will be provided by FilmNation Entertainment yet no director has been confirmed nor have any other casting announcements. However, if Roberts’ attachment becomes solidified, likely top-tiered choices on both ends will be locked up pretty quickly. It doesn’t appear that a start date is known at this time.
Roberts will next appear in Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy Mother’s Day as well as Jodie Foster’s Money Monster alongside George Clooney and Jack O’Connell (’71).
