According to Deadline, actress Judy Greer is currently discussing contracts to co-star as Jamie Lee Curtis’ daughter, Karen Strode, in Blumhouse‘s reboot of Halloween. Greer is best known for comedic roles on Two and Half Men and Arrested Development besides being voice actress on Archer. She also starred in Ant-Man alongside Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.
Although John Carpenter’s Halloween, released in 1978, is not the first slasher, it certainly inspired slew of imitators (some better than others): Friday the 13th, Prom Night (starring a post-Halloween Curtis), Slaughter High, The Prowler, and My Bloody Valentine, to name a few. In 2007, director and musician Rob Zombie remade Carpenter’s classic – and many fans were left with mixed feelings. In 2009, Zombie directed Halloween II, which was unamiously panned, laying the franchise to rest for nearly a decade.
The inevitable Halloween reboot was announced earlier this year, and the director and screenwriters surprised most fans. David Gordon Green, director of Pineapple Express and Prince Avalanche, is set to helm a script co-written by himself and the hilarious Danny McBride, who delivered surprisingly grounded performance in Alien: Covenant. The announcement certainly left many people scratching their heads as neither are known for horror; however, McBride and Green have stated in an interview that they are passionate about the genre as well as the original film. In fact, McBride said that a “reimagining,” not a remake, is in order. Furthermore, Carpenter’s role as executive producer and composer (he wrote the original film’s iconic theme) silenced many naysayers.
The recent announcement of Curtis’ return to the series as Laurie Strode was inevitable, but given that she met her demise in Halloween: Resurrection, Gordon’s Halloween obviously ignores lackluster past films in the series.
With an October 19, 2018 release date from Universal Pictures, Green’s Halloween won’t hit the big screen for over year. However, like Luca Guadagnino‘s upcoming remake of Suspiria, fans will be critical, but there’s hope for this reboot.
