Next in line for potential film franchises will be Warner Bros.’ King Arthur series– planned for six installments– with Jude Law (Grand Budapest Hotel) in negotiations to play the villain in the first film, Knights of the Roundtable. The film is to be directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch) however, plot details are still under wraps. We do know, however, that if Law signs on, he will join Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) who will be portraying the titular Arthur and Astrid Berges-Frisbey (I Origins) as Guinevere. The film is slated for a summer release on July 22, 2016.
Knights will reunite Law and Ritchie, who last worked together on the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes franchise. Based on the successful history and audience interest for Arthurian adaptations in the past– particularly the hit BBC series Merlin— this endeavor could easily be a home run for the two. Law recently appeared briefly in The Grand Budapest Hotel and starred in the Richard Shepard’s Dom Hemingway. Law also has some promising films up ahead, including Focus Features’ Black Sails, a part in the ensemble drama Genius, as well as in the Paul Feig comedy, Spy.
