After the recent fringe reporting on the separation of immigrant children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexican border from Fox News, director and comedian Judd Apatow has called upon Fox Talent to speak out against the Trump Administration’s policies allowing this to happen as well as the news coverage.
Apatow tweeted the following about his disdain for the current situation: “[AG Jeff Sessions] is a f—ing kidnapper! The Murdoch’s support these policies ! Where are the Fox stars and executives speaking up?! Imagine if it was your kids. Who has a movie, TV show, sporting event, news show at Fox? How can you remain silent when they promote these policies?”
In the extensive series of tweets, Apatow criticized both Fox News and the Trump Administration for their actions. He also spoke up about the Murdoch family, including Rupert Murdoch, which is in charge of the 21st Century Fox Media empire.
“I haven’t worked with Fox since 2002. That family promotes evil ideas and greed and corruption. We all choose who to work with. I understand why that is easier for some than others but many powerful people are powerful enough to speak up to their bosses at a moment like this,” Apatow said about his show Undeclared that was cancelled in 2002.
Apatow further explained that he understood how it is not easy to stand up to people in high power, but declaring their disgust for the actions being glorified on Fox News is a step in the right direction, “That’s exactly what I said,” he stated in a response after being questioned on whether his words were blanket statements, “Everyone can’t stand up to their bosses but many people who work at Fox are In Powerful positions and CAN say they do not support the networks support for evil policies.”
Apatow then celebrated Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane for actively speaking out against Fox. MacFarlane tweeted the following about his thoughts on the child-separation coverage: “In other words, don’t think critically, don’t consult multiple news sources, and in general, don’t use your brain. Just blindly obey Fox News. This is fringe shit, and it’s business like this that makes me embarrassed to work for this company.”
Soon after MacFarlane and Apatow, Modern Family creator Steve Levitan joined the fight against Fox by tweeting, “Let me officially join @SethMacFarlane in saying I’m disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with @FoxNews. This bullshit is the opposite of what #ModernFamily stands for.”
When asked to respond to the comments, 20th Century Fox refused to comment on Monday night.
