Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens Team Up for ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday’ for Netflix

Paul Reubens’ beloved Pee-wee Herman character will be gracing our screens (albeit, small screens) again, thanks to Judd Apatow (the upcoming Trainwreck) and Netflix. Reubens and Apatow have reportedly been kicking the idea for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday around for some time, and the streaming service has now partnered with them for a global release of the film.

It’s been 30-some years since the iconic Pee-wee character first hit the big screen in Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. The 1985 film marked Tim Burton‘s feature directorial debut.  Apparently Reubens and Apatow have been working on the new project for about 4 years. Reubens and Paul Rust (TV’s Arrested Development) penned the script and John Lee (TV’s Inside Amy Schumer) has been tapped to direct, making his feature debut.

In a press release for the project, Reubens says:

Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago. The world was much different back then— Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive. I’ve changed all that. The future is here. Get used to it. Bowtie is the new black.

The film is slated to start production early this year. No release date has been announced as of now.
