Deadline has reported that Transformers star Josh Duhamel has officially joined the Lionsgate film Shotgun Wedding alongside Jennifer Lopez. Duhamel will be replacing Armie Hammer’s character, as he dropped out of the film due to social media scandal last month. Jennifer Coolidge and Sonia Braga are also joining the film to play the moms of Duhamel and Lopez’s characters.
The announcement was made by Erin Westerman, president of production for the Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group, stating: “We couldn’t be happier for our bride and groom of this Shotgun Wedding. We know Josh and Jennifer will make a compelling and sexy on-screen couple and they will be fun sparring partners as their dream destination wedding erupts into a memorable nightmare. We are also thrilled to bring Jennifer and Sonia on to our cast as Mothers of the Bride and Groom”. The film will be directed by Jason Moore, from a screenplay by Mark Hammer and Liz Meriwether. Lopez is one of the film’s producers, with her Nuyorican Productions partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina.
Hammer dropped out of the film last month after some gruesome accusations were made about him. He took to social media saying, “I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that”. A spokesperson for the production also reported: “Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision”. Shotgun Wedding is set to begin filming in the Dominican Republican later this week.
