Josh Charles Set to Join Cast of ‘Amateur’

Josh Charles (TV’s The Good Wife) is now set to join the cast of the basketball drama Amateur, written and directed by Ryan Koo and based on his 2013 short film of the same name (you can check out the short below). The Tracking Board first reported the news.

The story revolves around a young talented basketball player (Michael Rainey Jr.) and the efforts to recruit him. Charles will play the role of Jimmy Gaines, the boy’s coach, a role which Jason Sudeikis (The Angry Birds Movie) had previously been in talks for.

Jason Michael Berman is producing for Mandalay Pictures along with Chip Hourihan. Netflix is financing and taking on global distribution.

Charles is known for his starring role on The Good Wife, and was recently seen on the big screen in the Tina Fey dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and the indie drama I Smile Back starring Sarah Silverman (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping). Charles recently wrapped filming on the thriller The Drowning, and will be seen next year in another thriller, Oppenheimer Strategies, starring Richard Gere (The Benefactor).

Amateur is currently in production.
