As stated by Deadline, Josh Brolin (Weapons, Avengers: Infinity War) reveals he was about to quit on the first day of filming for The Dog Stars. The reason behind it was due to conflict with director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) as he went on tangents unrelated to the film.
Brolin expressed to Empire, “Ridley was talking a lot of stories and not really rehearsing, and it bugged me out, and I got really scared. I went back, called my agent and said, ‘I want out. Something’s really wrong, and I’ve got to get the f*ck out of here.””
“Luckily my agent is a close friend and he said, ‘Rest for a day.’” He continued, “I was like, ‘No, man, I know what the f*ck you’re doing. It’s not one of those day-things.’ And I was right.”
He finished by saying, “[Ridley] goes, ‘Come here,’ and he brought me into his trailer, and played the scene we had just finished. It was a really good, very dynamic scene between me and Jacob, and he goes, ‘Okay?’ I go, ‘Okay, and then I started to feed off that.”
The Dog Stars casts Brolin as Bangley, Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein, Euphoria) as Hig, Margaret Qualley (Poor Things, Maid) as Cima, Guy Pearce as Pops (Memento, L.A. Confidential), Benedict Wong (Weapons, Doctor Strange), Alara-Star Khan (All of You, Black Mirror) and Allison Janney (I, Tonya, Mom) as the antagonist. Wong, Khan and Janney’s roles have yet to be released. The sci-fi action film releases August 28 in theaters.
