

Jonathan Tropper, who has worked as a writer with director Shawn Levy on multiple projects, recently gave an update on the progress for Shawn Levy’s promised Star Wars film. In an interview, Tropper said, “I’m really not going to be able to talk about this. So yeah, you know, we’re still working on it. Yeah, it’s our fourth project together. It’s the first one since The Adam Project.” He did not give any update on how far along the script is or when filming my begin, but that is still more promising than many other Star Wars headlines we have received over the years.
The film will be directed by Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling as the lead. When the film first was announced back in November 2024, president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy (who will also serve as a producer) revealed it would take place around five or six years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. She also said that it may feature a mixed bag of new and returning characters.
Lucasfilm seems to be having trouble releasing Star Wars films, with promised films from Rian Johnson and Taika Waititi nowhere to be seen, as well as a “New Jedi Order” film starring Daisy Ridley in development limbo. Still, there is no shortage of Star Wars content. Andor season two releases in just a few weeks on April 22. Additionally, Star Wars fans will finally receive another film when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theters May 22, 2026.
