For the first time, Jonathan Majors appeared in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday morning for domestic violence charges, and the judge set his trial date for August 3rd, later this year.
Majors is going to trial for an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred on March 25th in New York City with a former romantic partner. He is accused of allegedly pulling the woman’s finger, twisting her arm behind her back, striking her, cutting her ear, and pushing her into a vehicle which reportedly caused her to fall back, sustaining further injuries. The 30-year-old alleged victim told officers who arrived at the scene that she was assaulted and was immediately sent to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor neck and head injuries.
The 33-year-old actor had entered the courtroom Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in a dark brown suit and sunglasses. Meagan Good, Stop The Yard (2009) and Shazam! (2019) actor and Majors’ girlfriend also attended, supporting Majors in court.
Majors’ lawyer Priya Chaudhry and her team say they have evidence of the alleged victim assaulting Majors.
“We strongly requested the District Attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately and initiate proceedings against Ms. [redacted], holding her accountable for her crimes.”
During a previous hearing via a Zoom call on May 9th, Chaudhry stated this case was a “witch hunt” and an example of racial bias in the criminal justice system.
Judge Rachel S. Pauley granted a temporary protection order in April for the alleged victim, which is still in effect. If he fails to appear in court, a warrant for his arrest will be issued within 48 hours. However, Majors states that is not his intention.
Majors’ legal team released text messages and videos to prove his innocence. In a text message to Majors, the alleged victim states, “I told them it was my fault for trying to grab your phone.” She also said in the text that she told police, “This was not an attack.”
Since the allegations, Majors was dropped from Lede Company (PR team) and Entertainment 360, his management. He is an Emmy nominee for the HBO TV series Lovecraft Country. He is also set to star as the main antagonist in Avengers: Kang Dynasty as Kang the Conqueror, but the date has been postponed to May 2026.
