‘Asteroid City’ Actor Jason Schwartzman Looks Back On 25 Years Working With Wes Anderson

The critically-acclaimed director Wes Anderson is known for working with an exclusive actor group over the years for multiple projects such as Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swindleton. Among the group, one of Anderson’s most recurring collaborators is Jason Schwartzman. They began working together in 1998 with Rushmore, which was Schwartzman’s first feature film and Anderson’s second directorial project. Since then, they’ve worked together seven more times, and are reunited in their latest project, Asteroid City.

Asteroid City (2023) is about a grieving father who travels with his tech-obsessed family to the small rule town of Asteroid City, to compete in a stargazing event, only to have his worldview disrupted forever.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Schwartzman discussed his 25-year work relationship with Anderson and how he keeps a fresh fascination with his film projects. Schwartzman shared,

One thing that’s the same is, on Rushmore, there’s a scene where I drive a go-kart, and we were shooting it that day, and he drove up next to me on this go-kart was like, ‘Follow me,’ and he took off in this go-kart, and I was like, ‘Oh, s–t. Okay. We left the set and everyone’s like, ‘Where are they going?’ We drove all around. We raced all around Houston. He was dying laughing, and I could see this joy on his face. He loves to be part of this. He loves to be in the movie. That a prop is not just a prop, it’s a thing you can get in and be in and feel.

Asteroid City will be released Friday, June 23rd.
